hi, i'm holly, and i'm a writer. |
A "writer" as in, I've known that's what I wanted to be since the first grade, even though my teacher caught me in a lie when I said I wanted to be a marine biologist, because I had just learned that was the technical term for my scuba diving Barbie. She was suspicious (I was probably sweating) so she told me she enjoyed my scribble-language stories I sometimes brought to show her and hey did I know what a "writer" did? A "writer" as in, proud alumna of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, where I reigned as boss lady/editor-in-chief of Speakeasy magazine, an online hub for pop culture nerds and the occasional sports report. I left Athens with a bachelors of science in Magazine Journalism and a minor in English, Anthropology and Jell-O shots. A "writer" as in, the one-time advice columnist at BOP & Tiger Beat, and yes, it ruled. A "writer" as in, Peggy Olsen with winged eyeliner, having fallen into copywriting with a product role at zulily, where sold SPANX and stilettos to "Mom,' and created a training program for writers and cross-functional partners. Then I spent half a decade at a mom and pop boutique called Abercrombie & Fitch, where I was the word witch for abercrombie kids, making omni-channel, 360-degree marketing magic and crafting so. many. moose puns. I also have direct-selling experience, having spent about a year as copy lead at Thirty-One Gifts, where I lead a small-but-mighty team through the land of rebranding and worked to rebuild the voice and tone (for customers and consultants) one em-dash at a time. A "writer" as in, the current lead copywriter at Petco, where my cat lady and copywriter personalities have merged, and any typical day could include revamping a brand guide for one of the 10+ owned brands, overseeing packaging messaging for cat litter, whipping out digital assets about slushies for dogs, or concepting an all-new brand for birds. A "writer" as in, I promise I'm still working on that novel during my free (?!) time. A "writer" as in, I literally do not know how to be anything else. |
Based in San Diego where you can find me chugging cold brews, browsing bookstores or sobbing over the sea lions.
